ABOUT FRESH CATCH DELI

My name is Duwayne Da Silva, founder and operator (a.k.a The Big Fish!) of Fresh Catch Deli. My journey, and that of Fresh Catch Deli, started out rather humbly. Having had access to quality seafood products through a family-run distribution business, I began by supplying seafood as a hobby and favour to close friends and colleagues, while holding down my 9-5 job. I think that’s what they call moonlighting right ????

As my services quickly gained traction, primarily through word-of-mouth, I soon discovered the unbelievable lack of access the public had to high quality seafood, at really affordable prices. The main channel of public consumer accessibility was through your mainstream retail outlets, and this just didn’t sit well with me.

Why should seafood be seen as a luxury item, given the high retail costs? Why should seafood not be a staple food item in any household, given its nutritional value and health benefits? Why should only retail and restaurants have access to affordable, high-end seafood? Why why WHY!?

With Gauteng’s high population density and urban planning, the lack of traditional Fishmonger retail outlets is astonishing. Seafood distribution companies are dime a dozen in Gauteng, but where’s the public space?

A STAR IS BORN

So that got me thinking … ok, well why don’t I go full retail, and open up a Fishmonger? Hmm … well that then means high overheads – rental space, refrigeration, equipment, staff etc. High overheads will have to mean higher margins to cover those costs … and that only means one thing – a less affordable end product to the customer. Also, why do I want to limit myself geographically, being conveniently accessible to a limited suburban radius. So, I figured … hey, why not create a Fishmonger that’s accessible to anyone, anywhere … and comes to you!? Winner!

And so … Fresh Catch Deli was born, and officially started trading to the public in 2017.

My mission and vision have remained simple since day one – provide a personal service, offer quality products … and make it as affordable as possible! In doing so, I hope to create a brand and service that is trusted and keeps you coming back for more. I hope you enjoy your Fresh Catch experience and look forward to seeing you back soon!
